I read a blog by Robert Kiyosaki, the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad and a self made multimillionaire. He very wisely says that good leaders are always looking for people smarter and more experienced than they are. He goes on to say “if you are the smartest one in the room, then you are stupid”. This quote resonated with me, as I believe that the secret to a sustainable and successful business is playing to people’s strengths.
During my last Property Academy meeting one of my fellow delegates shared that he and his team recently sat down and listed every task that needs to be done. They then wrote down what their own strengths are and dished out the different tasks depending on who had what skill and preference. I recently did this in my business, it’s fascinating to write out everything that needs doing, and then to honestly mark the bits that you are good at and those that you are not.
So maybe there’s some value in you looking at your team, what are their key strengths, do you have a skills shortage or is there a dynamic missing? By accepting that not being everything to everyone is ok you can then focus on what each person is really good at. Providing you have a well balanced team then each cog will fit together to produce a well oiled machine.
